Kurukshetra University organized Campus Lecture Series for the session 2019-20

Kurukshetra, 9 August: Kurukshetra University organized Campus Lecture Series for the session 2019-20. In this a lecture on “Reviving Emotional and Cultural bonding between Man and Water” was organized on 9th August, 2019 in the Senate Hall of the University. Prof. Pawan Sharma, Dean Students Welfare, K.U. welcomed and introduced the guests.

Sh. Atul Jain, General Secretary, Deen Dayal Research Institute, New Delhi was the keynote speaker. Sh. Jain reiterated the efforts of Sh. Nanaji Deshmukh, who was yesterday awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ posthumously. He told the gathering that all the 17 goals of United Nations for sustainable development were drawn from Nanaji Deshmukh’s philosophy. Dr. Atul Jain talked about creating awareness about the sacrosanct relationship of human being with water. He told numerous anecdotes and traditional scientific knowledge about the Rohini Nakshtra during Amavasya. He reminded the gathering that it was during this day that traditionally the water bodies were cleaned throughout the country and numerous folklores are associated with it.

Dr. Meena Jangir, Research Scholar of the Deen Dayal Research Institute, New Delhi talked about the importance of connecting with traditional people in villages and gave very informative knowledge about the traditional behavior of clouds recorded by people of Rajasthan. She talked about the 74 types of clouds and associated types of rains.

Smt. Shraddha Marathe talked about the traditional folklore and sanctity of water conservation in Indian tradition.

Smt. Archana Chitnis, Ex-Minister of Education and Women and Child Development, Madhya Pradesh talked about the relationship of human beings with the five elements as also the wisdom given by Gandhiji regarding “greed and need”. She discussed the concept of ‘Dohan and Shoshan.’

The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Professor K.C. Sharma told the audience that during emergency in 1975, the entire crusade against the then Government was launched under the leadership of Nanaji Deshmukh who later on being offered a ministerial berth preferred to set up a root level institution in Chitrakoot. The Vice-Chancellor told the audience that human being is important creation of nature but he has to live in relationship with other living beings and has to respect nature. He extolled the students to shun the materialistic approach, develop a career for societal benefit and gave the slogan of “Return to your roots”. He told water is not only important for human beings, it is important for sustaining the universe as a whole.

Programme was attended by the Registrar, Prof. Dr. Neeta Khanna, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Manjula Chaudhry, Prof. Pawan Sharma, Chairpersons of different Science Departments, Directors and students from Geology, Geophysics, Geography and Environment Science Departments.
